  • Hawk’s Nest Highway and Lookout
    It’s a snake-like route along the Delaware River with stunning views. The road (New York State Route 97) is 112km (69.5 miles) long, running from Port Jervis (a city at the confluence of the Neversink and Delaware rivers in western Orange County) to Hancock (a village in Delaware County). Most of the route follows a shoreline path along the river at roughly water level. The most famous part of the drive is a short curvy section with 9 turns known as Hawk's Nest.

  • Tri-States Monument
    This Monument was placed in 1882, and serves as the northern end of New Jersey's boundary with Pennsylvania, and the northwest end of the New York/ New Jersey boundary line- where the Neversink and Delaware Rivers converge. It sits at waters edge at the southwestern edge of a peninsula. The 3 lines cut designate the state boundaries of NY, NJ, and PA. It is at a location historically known as Carpenter's Point, situated below the current Interstate 84 overpass. This site is accessed via the road located in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Jervis, NY.

    Tri-States Monument

    Elks Memorial Park
    Opened originally in 1920, this is the largest park within the city was developed. Re-opened in 1996 with new picnic areas, trails, and bathrooms being constructed. Picnic tables and grills are also available.It offers panoramic vistas that overlook Port Jervis, New York, as well as the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the Delaware River.

    High Point State Park
    Discover unrivaled views at the highest point in New Jersey. High Point, the summit of the Kittatinny Ridge, rises 1,803 feet above sea level — the highest elevation in the state of New Jersey. Kittatinny Ridge is the product of continental collisions that crumpled the earth’s crust, the grinding force of mile-high ice sheets, and centuries of erosion that washed soil and rock into the valleys. The result is a mountain with unrivaled views of three states and a scenic landscape where uncommon plants take root, animals find refuge, and people come to sightsee, play and relax.

    The Columns Museum of the Pike County Historical Society
    Located in the historic Borough of Milford, called "the prettiest county seat in America" by Atlantic Magazine, The Columns Museum is the home of the Pike County Historical Society. Open Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday 1 - 4 p.m and Thursday and Friday by appointment. Two floors of exhibits, including the famous "bloody Lincoln flag" upon which the slain President's head was believed to have rested after his assassination, a collection of personal effects of Charles Sanders Peirce, the pragmatist, mathematician and philosopher, an extensive collection of 19th century clothing and much more.


    Grey Towers National Historic Site
    Grey Towers, located in Milford, Pennsylvania, was originally the summer estate of the James Pinchot family and later the primary home of Gifford Pinchot, America's first forester and founder of the USDA Forest Service. Grey Towers was built in 1886 by James and Mary Pinchot as a summer retreat. 


    The Neversink Valley Museum of History and Innovation
    A private, non-profit organization, the Museum occupies historic canal-era buildings in the D&H Canal Park right on the Neversink River. This historic complex is so well preserved and so historically significant that it has been designated a National Historic Landmark. This lovely region of Orange County is home to the Neversink, the Minisink, the amazing D&H Canal, a rich archaeological history and a network of small museums and historical societies devoted to presenting it all to you.

    DAR Van Bunschooten Museum
    This Dutch Colonial house was built in 1787 as the home of the Reverend Elias Van Bunschooten, a Dutch Reformed Minister. Visitors enjoy ten rooms of the house, which are filled with an impressive collection of period antiques, many of which were donated by the original family, and used in the home. Items in the collection span a range from 1787 to 1860, and include clothing, quilts and woven coverlets, furniture, oil paintings, cookware and china, wagons, and farm implements. The library has approximately 900 volumes and is used for local historical and genealogical research. The Van Bunschooten Museum has remained true to its origins, despite four or five changes of ownership, and numerous tenants. 


    Lusscroft Farm
    Lusscroft Farm is one of a kind. Located in the northwest corner of Sussex County, these 578 acres have a rich and diverse past open for hiking and tours. Between 1914 and 1930, James Turner, a Montclair stockbroker, invested the considerable fortune of $500,000 to make Lusscroft a perfect model of dairy farming, employing the most innovative practices of the time based on scientific research. The land includes fields and pastures, ponds, woodland and various barnyards.

  • Delaware and Hudson Canal Trail
    The D & H Canal towpath is nestled within the 300-acre D & H Canal Park in the New York hamlet of Cuddebackville. The crushed-stone trail, stretching just over a half mile, is one section of a larger trail system winding along the historical Delaware and Hudson (D & H) Canal, which dates back to the early 1800s. Walking and biking can be enjoyed in this beautiful natural setting, as well as fishing in the Neversink River. The D & H Canal Park Visitor Center is a good place to start your journey to learn more about the canal; you can also picnic on its grounds. The Neversink Valley Area Museum (located adjacent to the park entrance) is another must-visit attraction for history buffs.


    Port Jervis Watershed Park and Recreation Area
    Since its inception, the 307-acre Port Jervis Watershed has been an isolated piece of land. Adjacent to the watershed is the186-acre Elks-Brox Park that was dedicated to the city in the early 1900’s. Both parcels are in natural pristine condition and despite close proximity to the city's neighborhoods and business district, both parcels have been underutilized by the public.

    Port Jervis is located near to metropolitan areas with significant populations of outdoor sporting enthusiasts willing and able to drive short distances to experience nature. The great part about the trails is that they are free to ride, hike and experience. 30 miles can give plenty of time to recreate as each trail has varying difficulty levels. Additionally, trails provide some of the most magnificent views in the region. 


    The Delaware River Walking Trail
    The Delaware River through Port Jervis is a great place for recreation.  Kayaking or floating this part of the river is a popular spring and summer activity.  Visit West End Beach to cool off in the summer or relax by the river in Riverside Park. Walk along the river on the dike in Riverside Park or the McCarthy Riverside Walkway south of West End Beach any time of year.  Go rafting, kayaking, canoeing or tubing on the Delaware River with Silver Canoe, Kittattinny Canoes, or Indian Head Canoes.


    Delaware River Heritage Trail
    The Delaware River Heritage Trail and greater Port Jervis region offer stunning views, are easy to access, and offer a wonderful opportunity for individuals and families to spend time in the Upper Delaware region.


    Raymondskill Falls
    The three-tiered Raymondskill Falls is the tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania. If you add the height of each cascade together, the waterfall is only a few feet shorter than Niagara Falls. While the trail is short, it is fairly steep and uneven. The upper viewing area provides a view of the upper pool and its large cascade. The lower viewing area provides a great photo opportunity of the falls.


    Hackers Falls Trail
    Enjoy a hike with elevation change, mixed hardwood forest, and hemlock ravine views as you make your way past Hackers Falls. This waterfall has a fan shape as it slides down a short, steep drop. Hackers Trail terminates at the intersection of the Buchanan Trail.


    Milford Knob Trail
    A challenging hike to the top of the Raymondskill Ridge traverses through the lowland forest to the mixed hardwood and scrub found in the upland forest. The steep climb is rewarded with a charming view of historic Milford. After visiting the Knob, consider adding a little more to the hike by walking along the Cliff Trail for eight-tenths of a mile until the Quarry Trail meets the Cliff Trail; then return to the Milford Knob Trail via the half-mile Quarry Trail. Over eight miles of trail can be connected together in the Cliff Park 

    area to fill the entire day.


    Bashakill Wildlife Refuge
    Fifteen miles of walking trails and several observation towers enhance the visitor's outdoor experience. The Bashakill Wetland is home to over 200 species of birds and is a state designated Bird Conservation Area. The area supports characteristic breeding wetland-dependent species, abundant waterfowl, and several species at risk.
